Join Uri L’Tzedek, Progressive Jewish Alliance & Jewish Funds for Justice in securing the rights of thousands of domestic workers across the country!

Today, there are more than 1.7 million home care workers who do not receive basic protections – minimum wage and overtime- afforded to most employees in the United States. That number is expected to rise dramatically as the number of Americans requiring long-term care is expected to nearly double by 2050.  Many of these employees work extremely long hours, doing difficult labor, taking care of our children and elderly, two populations that are most cherished in Jewish tradition.  Yet, because they are unprotected by the law, their holy work is often exploited.

This past December, the US Department of Labor proposed a rule change that that will grant home care workers minimum wage and overtime protections, rights which will provide them with the security and dignity they deserve.  As is standard, the public is invited to submit comments on the proposed change.  The time period to submit these comments ends on Feb 27th.

We have the opportunity to encourage these new laws to be passed.  It is particularly important for Jewish professional and lay leaders to make vocally support these proposed changes.

Comment Here.

Please indicate in the other section that you heard about his campaign through Uri L’Tzedek. Together, we can let our voices be heard that the Jewish community is standing up for the rights of home care workers.

See here for more details and application information.

The Amos Fellowship is an eight week program every Tuesday night, from January 31st-April 3rd, designed to train new social justice leaders through the lens of Torah. Participants in the fellowship will  be meeting each week to engage in Torah learning related to social justice ideals and leadership training geared toward non-profit work (fundraising, campaigning, writing op-eds).

All participants will receive a $250 budget toward a social project as well as leadership roles in various Uri L'Tzedek campaigns like the Tav haYosher, Domestic Violence and Prison Reform. Social Justice work can feel like a constant uphill struggle but if we stand together and step up to the challenge we can all help bring the change that the world so desperately needs.
