Chief Compliance Officer: Mindy Feldman Hecht

Mindy Feldman Hecht, originally from Teaneck, NJ, recently completed a Master's in Public Health at Columbia University. She is currently working as a research coordinator at the Hip Hop Public Health Education Center, an organization that focuses on reducing health disparities through music and educational entertainment.  Mindy has always been passionate about viewing social justice issues through a Jewish lens, participating in various programs such as AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps and AJWS Volunteer Summer. She is excited to be involved with the Tav and Uri L'Tzedek. She lives with her husband, Eric, on the Upper West Side.

Chief Compliance Officer: Emily Winograd

Emily Winograd is a senior in the Double Degree Program between Barnard College and the Jewish Theological Seminary.  She interned at Uri L'Tzedek from 2009 to 2010, and has subsequently worked at Likeable Media, City Year, and the Barnard Office of Alumnae Affairs. She has also served on the Executive Board of Columbia/Barnard Hillel as Interfaith/Intercultural Coordinator, and as a leader of two of its wonderful groups, the Jewish Education Workshop and Lalekhet: Jewish Law and Modernity. Having volunteered as a compliance officer for the past two years, she looks forward to playing a larger role in the expansion of the Tav HaYosher.

Director of Tav HaYosher Engagment: Dasi Fruchter

Dasi Fruchter, originally from Silver Spring, MD, was an Uri L'Tzedek fellow during the summer of 2009. Currently in her final year at the Macaulay Honors College at Queens College, she is an Urban Studies and Media Studies student, with a specific interest in faith-based organizing and social media. On campus, Dasi is involved in interfaith work and social action activities, and was named a recipient of the Kenan Scholarship, a fellowship that rewards students with a demonstrated history in public service. Most recently, she was a fundraising intern at Kav LaOved, a worker’s rights organization based in Israel that gives legal advice and offers other support to vulnerable worker populations. Dasi is passionate about harnessing the power of faith-based communities to create meaningful change, making new discoveries about urban life, interacting with all types of people, and hosting delicious communal Shabbat meals.

Director of the Tav HaYosher: Dani Passow

Dani Passow is a rabbinical student at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah where he is also a Wexner Graduate Fellow. Dani serves as director of alumni activities in America for Yeshivat Maale Gilboa and has volunteered at the Ansche Chesed Men’s Homeless Shelter. He recently completed Elat Chayyim’s Advanced Meditation Program. A graduate of Cooper Union's engineering school, Dani has studied in various yeshivot in Israel, most recently at Yeshivat Maale Gilboa where he was also a Madrich for post-high school American students. Along with his position at Maale Gilboa, Dani worked with Beit Midrash Yisraeli bringing secular and religious Israelis together to study Torah, and volunteered at the Beit Alpha Ethiopian absorption center. Dani combines his enthusiasm for Torah with a continued interest in the sciences and has spent the past three summers doing chemistry and bio-engineering research at the University of Pennsylvania.

Former Tav HaYosher Coordinator: Shifra Elman

Shifra Elman graduated from Stern College for Women and worked in the for profit world for a while before attending Wurzweiler School of Social and getting her MSW. She currently works for Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty creating and running programs that help the unemployed and underemployed. Interning with UJA Federation’s Wiener Educational Center and the Boro Park Bikur Cholem gave her a taste for helping those who don’t have the means to help themselves. She is excited to be a part of bringing social justice to the forefront of Jewish Orthodox communal life in her role as Tav Coordinator.

Chief Compliance Officer: Shlomit Cohen

Shlomit Cohen is currently studying in the Graduate Program for Advanced Talmudic Studies at Yeshiva Univerity. Shlomit recently graduated from Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University where she received a B.A in Jewish Studies with a minor in Political Science. During her time as an undergraduate Shlomit reinvigorated and led the Social Justice Society, committed to educating students about social injustices and facilitating opportunities for the translation of Jewish values into sustainable action. Shlomit has interned on Capitol Hill, at the American Jewish World Service, and at the Equal Housing Opportunity Council and looks forward to a career that combines her passions for social justice, Jewish communal work and American law.
